The 6-sided ball operates more smoothly than 4-lug designs. The socket base is made from 4140 chromium-molybdenum steel, and the ball\/socket piece is made from 8660 nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel. Both pieces have a corrosion-resistant manganese phosphate coating. The socket comes pre-lubricated with SuperLube Multi-Purpose Synthetic Grease (NLGI 2) with Syncolon (PTFE). Maintain the lubrication using this grease or a comparable grease as needed to reduce wear over time. The 6-point socket opening provides an exact fit and maximum contact for hex fasteners. Radiused corners prevent fastener round-off by applying force to a fastener's flat sides, rather than its corners.
